He was born in Toronto, but grew up in Winnipeg. He is the son of now deceased Toronto journalist Scott Young, who "wrote more than 40 books, some of them about sports figures such as Maple Leafs owner Conn Smythe and broadcaster Foster Hewitt. His series of hockey-related books for children encouraged many sports-mad youngsters to crack open a book for the first time." http://www.cbc.ca/arts/story/2005/06/17/young050617.html

Bernard Shakey is Neil Young.

CLUES:

  1. This glacier is in BC, Canada
  2. To get to it by road, one has to go through a state of the United States
  3. On the way there one goes through a US one horse town...If you're nice, I'll post that picture too
  4. The name of the town kinda sounds like something one should not park in front of.
  5. To enter the USA at this point requires absolutely no passport. There is only Canadian control.
  6. People come by the hundreds to look at the bears doing their thing in summer in the river through town....lots of US Park Pangers there.
  7. To get to the nearest Canadian town, it is a mere stone's throw ( 2 miles), along a seawater canal ...do NOT be fooled by this clue..look carefully, VERY CAREFULLY, at your map.
  8. The US one horse town was originally called Portland City...there is a reason for that....to do with clue 7.
  9. A well-known John Carpenter movie was shot here, starring Kurt Russel.
  10. A much more recent movie starring Al Pacino was shot in the nearest Canadian town.

QUESTIONS

  1. What is the name of the Glacier?
  2. What is the name of the nearest Canadian Town?
  3. What is the name of the US one horse town?
  4. What is the name of the seawater canal?
  5. What is the name of the state?
  6. What is the title of the well-known John Carpenter movie?
  7. What is the title of the movie starring Al Pacino?
  8. Who acted the part of the guy Pacino chased?

Well done Debbie.

In addition Scott Young was on Hockey Night in Canada (pre Don Cherry probably) and managed to anger the Leafs who then had him kicked off the show!

I think I had better start to put some Ontario themes up here one day.

Pity the scenery is so flat.

Could that be Sand Banks?

Prince Edward County out near Kinston.

Although Sand Banks has a bit of growth on the dunes.

A nice and easy one......

Clues:

1. There is a body of water to the left in this picture

2. The water in the body of water is not drinkable

3. There is a numbered national route to the right in the picture

4. The trainline runs north-south in this area.

5. A little further along is a bay that does not rule the waves.

6. There is a city along the railway line behind the viewer's back

7. The numbered national route also has a popular name

8. The next town in the way you are looking, is named for a First Nations Band

9. The First Nations Band speaks a language from a language family

10 The Flathead people of the USA speak a language from the same language family

11. Some several months ago a train derailed into a river on this train route and dumped a huge amount of of caustic soda in the river.

Questions:

1. What is the name of the body of water?

2. What is the number of the numbered national route?

3. What is the popular name of the numbered national route?

4. What is the name of the bay?

5. Which is the city?

6. Which is the name of the next town?

7. What is the name of the language family?

Beautiful photo!

I'm going to have a go. I've been offered a position in the nearest city, and have been doing some reading, and only just recently read about this unbelievable event (or if I'm not right, then one uncannily similar), so I think I know most of the answers. I shall be in this city this coming week, so will take a drive out there. What threw me though is the mountains in the background - I thought this area was quite flat and you had to drive a couple hundred more km;s before you got into the mountains. Anyway, here goes:

1) Wabamun Lake

2) 16

3) Yellowhead highway

4) Moonlight Bay?

5) Edmonton

6) Edson

7) ?????

Island Life, I'm afraid you have the wrong region.

Adele, you are right on two points:

1. What is the name of the body of water? Howe Sound. Correct. Congratulations

7. What is the name of the language family?Salish languages Correct. Congratulations

Thinks: Why would I give a clue like "bay that does not rule the waves" What ( or who), supposedly, rules the waves.?

This leaves 5 questions to be answered for this weekend. If that water is the Howe Sound and the next town is named for a Salish Speaking First Nations Band ( clues 8 & 9), then the answers should be available from a map.

Sea to Sky Highway

4. What is the name of the bay?

5. Which is the city?

6. Which is the name of the next town?

Squamish as *Stawamus is not the town but the Mountain range that is twice as high as Ayres Rock (more than 318 m (986 ft) high)

*Stawamus Chief: 700 metre massive granite cliffs that stand at the southern entrance to Squamish on the scenic Sea to Sky Highway.

I'm not really good at this, but didn't "Brittania rule the waves?" Sounds like English Bay to me. :)

Britannia Beach???

Only lucky guesses so far, but since I did go to Whistler with West Coast Sightseeing yesterday, I felt I should try to guess some of the answers.

I don't recall Britannia Beach being a bay that was why the other guesses. If it is not Britannia then I am not sure which other place it could be.

Anyhow, the tour was wonderful with 'Jack' our very interesting and extremely informative tour Guide.

Took some pictures and once I have uploaded the lot, will post here.

Hierdie was altyd een van Harry se gunstelinge. Kom ons kyk of ons hom weer agter sy navorsing kan uitlok!

  1. Ja, dis 'n volledige werkende vuurtoring!
  2. Alhoewel hierdie rivier baie verkeer gehad het in die laat 1800's, was daar nooit 'n vuurtoring totdat diƩ ene gebou is nie.
