Murals from all Over

Murals are a big thing in Canada. Almost every little town or large city has some. I thought it might be a good thread to start. I have some photographs I took at Chemainus on Vancouver Island, and I will scan them some time, but for now I will set the ball rolling with this one at the Calgary Stampede Grounds:

Black Diamond, AB

... and this one we almost drove by! I stopped just in time on our way through town, and took a picture of it for you. It's on the community hall, and looks fairly new. I cannot remember seeing it before.

In the river town of Athabasca. Referring to the trading or the Athabasca river, probably by the Hudson company in the early days.

Sparwood, BC

I saw this murial in Sparwood depicting the town's history and the area's involvement in the coal mining industry. Sparwood is in south eastern BC and its the last town you past through, before getting to the Alberta border and the Crow's Nest Pass.

Creston, BC

Dié ene het ek geneem toe ons by Kriegler-hulle in Creston gekuier het vroeër vanjaar. Daar was nog ene net oorkant die straat, maar van dié moet ek eers 'n panorama foto maak voordat ek dit kan plaas.

Hendie,

that is the picture from the Beatles Double White LP of 1968/9 ( entitled : "The Beatles"..which was embossed on the sleeve, as I recall)...the LP was a two disc set that came with four big pictures of the four guys. I had the pictures up against the wall in my own room in PE at the time.

Toronto, ON

Charles, your recent posting reminded me that I have also encountered a few murals in Toronto over the past few months.

Guess what's happening inside this building?

This mural is on the rear of the Toronto Sun newspaper building in downtown Toronto.

This is the well-known front view of the famous Gooderham Flatiron Building in downtown Toronto ....

But what does the rear of the building look like?

St. Jacobs, ON

I was out in St.Jacobs yesterday and came across these two murals.

By the way the market there is excellent and the town itself has lots of interesting little places to explore.

And yes it is in Mennonite country.

Chemainus, BC

I took these pics in a town south of Ladysmith on Vanc. Island. Just can't remember the town's name now, off hand. There were loads of murals all over the town. Really interesting.

Debbie, Would that be Chemainus? I took my parents there last year when we did a tour of Vancouver Island and Vancouver. Looks like some of the murals I saw there.

It is Chemainus, a lovely little village worth a visit. It boasts a very artistic community, and the Chemainus Theatre is quite famous. Its' Playbill Dining Room serves excellent meals.
