Chiche 0 Posted January 9 I am hoping I can get some clarity. We are supposed to land in June 2021. My husband still has a project he needs to complete before we leave. This might take 2 years or more. Is it possible to land and apply for PR Cards then leave Canada for 2 years? Then go back and settle permanently. MaryJane 2,818 Posted January 10 Yes. You should be able to do this.
Chiche 0 Posted January 10 Thank you Mary Jane. I am worried of losing our PR. If this can be done then I’m glad. Thank you.
Andrew and Tash 7 Posted January 11 I think the requirement is 730 days in Canada for the five year period after receiving your PR cards

So you can land to activate PR and then leave for an extended period of time.

Deirdre 8 Posted January 12 Unfortunately "soft landings" are Temporarily SUSPENDED due to Covid-

Once you leave the airport as a landed PR, the person could leave the country after the 2 weeks quarantine is complete. I doubt they would revoke the PR. Deirdre 8 Posted January 14 (edited) Hi @Jules The IRCC stated people CANT land now, then leave and come back as ALWAYS If PR land now it MUST be permanent Just 1 of the MANY frustrating Covid rules like us with PR that CANT fly now to activate We already left jobs, kids left school so just waiting Edited January 14 by Deirdre
Jules 1,391 Posted January 16 Interesting... I suppose the reality is that they still cannot stop the PR from leaving Canada a couple of weeks later after quarantine is complete. Having said that I would not be encouraging anyone to try and circumvent the guidance that has been published. It’s a tough one for sure.
BobbyV 12 Posted January 21 This is possible (generally). Actually, this is exactly what I'm doing at the moment. I landed and activated my PR in September 2019 and have been back in SA since then. My PR card was sent to a friend's address and they managed to bring it with them to SA when they visited at the beginning of 2020. I plan to move permanently to Canada at the end of 2021.
