Spherocyte 1 Posted December 17, 2020 Hello everyone, I have a job offer in Canada with an LMIA which has recently been approved. My work permit application is in the processing stage. My spouse and children will be accompanying me to Canada. I was told by an immigration consultant that my spouse would get an open work permit and the children would get study permits valid for the duration of my work permit validity. My question is: do we need to apply for the open work permit or is this automatically issued to my spouse and children at the airport when we arrive? Secondly, how do I time the applications for my husband and kids? I’m expecting to start work sometime in February 2021.
MaryJane 2,818 Posted December 20, 2020 Hi @Spherocyte! Here's something a few years back, but should still be relevant. Alternatively, I read the same things on the instruction guide under the work permit application (https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/application-forms-guides/guide-5487-applying-work-permit-outside-canada.html )
