How do you get a trade qualification assessment?

Any mechanics on the site? What is the process of getting your qualification assessed?

Hubby studied Diploma of Mechanical Engineering through the then Technikon Natal now know as Durban University of technology! And did his apprenticeship (mechanics) with the KZN department of transport. Australia issued him with cert 3 in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology. Any idea what NOC code we should be looking up and who do we get his qualifications assessed through? NOC 7312 looks like the closest to what he currently does! We just keep going in circles with the websites!

We looking to move to either BC or Alberta.

Hey @HeidiPatrick

Here's what I found on the web, hope this helps.

The Q&A on the CIC website with regards getting a Certificate of Qualification for the Federal Trades Program - https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=744&top=29

For specific province-related regulatory bodies, you can check this other page out: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/eligibility/skilled-trades.html#provinces

For BC, it is ITA BC (https://www.itabc.ca) and for Alberta, it is Alberta's Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board (AITB?) (https://tradesecrets.alberta.ca/about-us/).

NOC 7312 looks like a Red Seals trade so your husband may have to challenge the Red Seals exams.

@HeidiPatrick We are going through this with my husband currently (We already live in canada, but are having a hard time securing PR) Our visas expire in August and apparently one agent says we can do a WES assessment for the academic part of a trade. I'm trying to get more info on this as it is a bit of a grey area right now. Another agent is saying we cannot assess him as my husband does not have matric.

He is red seal qualified and has done the credentials assessment twice to challenge the red seal here, but keeps missing it by a few points, it is extremely difficult and my husband is quite a bright one! However, saying this, apparently challenging the system for red seal here, has no impact on your application whatsoever. It only gives you an upper hand where wages are concerned.

If I find out more, I will post here.
