Activating PR and returning to SA

Recommended Posts

What a great forum. Many of my questions answered by other posts but one hasn't been.

We have ours IELTS test scheduled for April, super excited.

I have a question though regarding the process once all has been approved.

We want to go through the process, then go to Canada to get out PR card activated as part of a holiday. We do want to return to SA to continue working and wind down our lives over 2 years (for various reasons such as our extended sibling and parent family health concerns).

Would there be an issue if we went to activate our PR status, have the card delivered to a family member but return to SA and not emigrate officially until much later?

Would there be a time limit within which we would need to emigrate officially?

Thank you in advance.

To keep your PR status you need to be physically present in Canada for 730 days during every five year period. So you can go back to SA, but make sure you return (and then stay) in Canada for at least 730 days.

Thank you so much. That helps immensely.

One more thing - the 730 days do not need to be continuous. As long as they are in a single 5 year period.
