Teachers Licence Renewal

Recommended Posts

GoDz85

Good day SACanada,

My wife has a possible job offer at Canadian school and what we would like to know does the teachers licence needs to be renewed? Also does that mean we have to do the IELTS exam every 2 years to keep the teachers licence?

Thanks so much for your help

Hello @GoDz85 You will need to find out from the licensing board. Have you done the qualification assessments and initial license application? Is she legally allowed to work in Canada? Those are probably nr 1 and 2 in reverse order. (Permission to work in CA is most important).

"How do I become a teacher in Ontario?"

This is the website of the licensing body for teachers in Ontariohttp://www.oct.ca/IET/teacher_education_program.aspx?lang=en-CA

For SA educated teachers, these are some documents you will need: http://www.oct.ca/becoming-a-teacher/internationally-educated-teachers/country-info/country-s/country-south-africa

The general link for internationally educated teachers: http://www.oct.ca/becoming-a-teacher/internationally-educated-teachers

Everything province is different.  You'll have to check the provincial  education board to see what you need.  I know in Alberta you have to do a conversion course or something to be registered to teach here.

Hi all thank you for the information.

We are still in the process of applying for Express Entry based on my qualifications and job offer. We will be moving to Ontario. My wife is a teacher and we are proactively looking to get everything in place for her to be able to teach when arriving.

We've looked at all the resources Nettie is quoting above. My question is:

To start the application you need a Canadian SIN which we will obviously only get at a later stage. To apply you need to get a lot of information from your University (UNISA in our case) and SACE that needs to be sent directly from the institution to the Ontario College of Teachers. Thus I foresee a bit of a catch 22. To get anything out of UNISA we are probably going to have to go there physically, but it won't help much until we have a SIN which we will only get when we arrive in Canada.

Anyone else have had to deal with this and have any advice? My best guess will be to find someone in UNISA that can help while we are in SA, get all the information in order and then request it directly from that person when we have a SIN in Canada?

Thanks
