Merida 124 Posted June 16, 2017 What is your occupation? Your ability to successfully find a job, while still in South Africa, depends on whether your skills are in high demand here and employers are struggling to find local candidates. The employer needs to be able to show that the employer was unable to find a Canadian/PR to fill the position.
Lizelle 583 Posted June 18, 2017 Getting a job offer from SA is exceedingly rare. It is not impossible, and it does happen, but it depends greatly on your skill set and whether there is a serious shortage of it in Canada or not. The best way to figure that out is to look on the job websites and apply for any job that you qualify for. If you get no responses back after sending many many applications, that will give you an indication. If you do, well, there you go. https://www.workopolis.com/shared/en/home/index https://www.monster.ca https://ca.indeed.com These are a few of the websites, there are others. Also, it would be good to figure out what your EE score is, too. If you qualify, it would be good to get your application is. The other very important thing is to start getting your paperwork together. Get your unabridged birth certificate. Figure out if you need to write an IELTS, and if you do need it, book it and go write that.
Merida 124 Posted June 18, 2017 (edited) The first step would be to convert your CV to a résumé (which should be limited to two pages and not include any personal information apart from your contact information. This might help regarding this and also cover letter tips: Edited June 18, 2017 by Merida
Piper 254 Posted June 18, 2017 @CarmenJoy, good luck with the job hunting! I secured employment from SA last week and the only advice that I can give is to do your due diligence with regards to the résumé as is suggested above. This is arguably the most important document in the entire immigration process, yet it seems from my anecdotal experience and observations that a lot of South Africans do not put enough effort into it.

SunshineGirl 151 Posted June 25, 2017 @Piper, congrats on securing job offers for both you & you DH from SA. The fact that you both secured those valuable Canadian jobs, suggests to me that you both worked incredibly hard on the project. Apart from setting up a fantastic Canadian style resume, please could you share other advice for those of us still a little behind you in the process? Thanks in advance!

SunshineGirl 151 Posted June 25, 2017 Thanks, @Carmen83. I was quite interested in @Piper's personal experience and ideas, in addition to the above info which you shared & which I have read through before. PS. It would be nice to meet you, chat & share ideas at one of our Cape Town coffee groups, when we next meet ;-) ;-)

SunshineGirl 151 Posted June 25, 2017 @Piper, thanks! All the best with the packing & the moving. Can't say that I'm looking forward to packing for myself + my 3 hoarders - will have to start de-cluttering while waiting for the paperwork processing..
