Any South Africans here in Ottawa?

Recommended Posts

raymus

I have lived in Ottawa for the last 5 years. On a few occasions I tested my Google-fu to find South Africans here in Ottawa, and had no luck. If anyone is aware of where and how I can find fellow South Africans, please respond to this thread.

@Raymus – looks like you’ll be having more company within it coming few months. :-) We’re only now starting with the process, but we’re definitely looking at Ottawa as our destination for settling down.

Hi Ingrid, I have to apply for my OWP as soon as Jakes lands there, we have a few loose ends to tie up here (not least being that I have to sell the cars, the house, send the dogs and rifles & shotguns over, and finish packing up so the things we are taking (not much at the end of the day!) can be shipped!:blink::blink:

Did anyone say emigrating was easy ha ha!

I hope to follow with Fionnlagh within 2 months but suspect it may be longer... in reality more like 3-4 months.

They are having a good dumping today!laugh.gif

Rockwooder (Erika) put some pics up at Facebook of the snow so far in Ontario with the current storm.

Hope it's not snowing as much when her marathon rolls by, lol. Might need cross-country skis rather than running shoes.laugh.gif

Quick question: did you have a lot of hassles in getting your rifles, etc. approved for bringing them into Canada?

Is there like a pre-trip application one has to complete?

THanks.smile.gif

Rifles only, Ingrid, for competition shooting and hunting. You have to be legally qualified to own firearms in Canada which includes attending training courses etc. And there are many many hoops to jump through in shipping them over but we are using a specialist transport company for that.

Hello,

I live in Ottawa, have lived here since I came over in 1985. Currently I live in Richmond which is about 20 minutes from downtown Ottawa. I would be happy to meet up with you for a coffee and chat.
