I checked the CIC site today and our citizenship applications are "in process"!

Hopefully the process time will be a lot shorter than the expected 26 or so months.

Hey Tracey. I sent my application in Setpember 2013 and only received a confirmation letter in mid-January 2014. Don't expect an immediate response from CIC

Here's my timeline:

Feb. 2012 - send in Citizenship Application

Received my letter to acknowledge receipt of my application within a couple of months...

May. 2013 - received letter from CIC to resubmit my residence calculator, work info and places lived in past 5 years... Hmmm... Something tells me they might have misplaced my info...

Feb. 2014 - received letter to write Citizenship Exam

Wrote exam on Feb 26 and got results immediately. Were told that I should get invite to do the oath in 1-3 months...

Mar. 5, 2014 - Received my invite, less than 2 weeks later!

Mar. 27, 2014 - FINALLY became Canadian!

Mar. 31, 2014 - Applied for passport

Apr. 2, 2014 - Picked up Passport! WHOOP!

All in all, mine took 25 months...

Update of citizenship timeline from my end:

  • September 2013 - Sent in Citizenship Application
  • Mid-January 2014 – Received letter acknowledging receipt of my application
  • 24 May, 2014 - Received letter instructing me to write Citizenship Test
  • 17 June, 2014 – Scheduled to sit the test

I can only assume that they are fast tracking applications to work through the backlog as the above timeline is a LOT faster than expected.

Will keep readers posted as to any further developments.

Great news Adam, end is in sight. As for the test, read your book through once or twice, do a few on line practice tests and you will be OK.

Morning all,

I sat my citizenship test this morning and thought that I would provide an update on my application timeline.

Firstly, the Citizenship test – extremely easy. Twenty questions, all multiple choice. I did a number of online practice tests before sitting the actual test and nailed it with a score of 20/20. CIC allows 30 mins for the test…I was the first one out after a grand total of 4 mins!

From the test I moved onto an official that verified my documents. She was quite thorough and checked every travel/passport stamp in line with what I had put down on my application (which was a lot). There was one trip to the UK that never had stamps for some reason and she said that CIC could request e-tickets or receipts for this. The ‘language test’ was simply answering the administrative questions she asked i.e. “Why did you travel to UK, What did you do in Seattle on this date”, etc.

All in all, the entire process took me about 70 mins (this includes arrival, test, language test and document verification).

Update on citizenship processing times -

· September 2013 - Sent in Citizenship Application

· Mid-January 2014 – Received letter acknowledging receipt of my application

· 24 May, 2014 - Received letter instructing me to write Citizenship Test

· 17 June, 2014 – Sat Citizenship test

Official informed me that, bar CIC requiring additional proof of travel, I should receive a notice to attend ceremony in 3-5 months’ time.

Hi Adam

If I remember correctly you had a problem with a lost IMM 5252, which you needed for the citizenship application? Did you apply for a replacement or did you just add a note to your application that you have lost it? I can remember someone mentioned that to get a replacement will take another 6 months or something... Or perhaps it wasnt you that had the problem?
