I have been reading allot of the threads, and as a typical anylist we are trying to determine for how many months we must try and make provision for cash wise in order to survive whilst looking for work.

If you are willing, please state:

- The year in which you were job hunting

- Your Job / Industry

- And select below how long it took you to find work

A: Landed with a job

B: Got a job with first two months

C: Got a job in within month 3 to 6

D: Got a job within month 7 to 12

E: It took more than a year....

If we get good stats we could possible "pin" the toppic and build a record for future candians to plan with ;-)

I think what would make for even more interesting reading would be to take a poll of people who were laid off/made redundant or otherwise lost their employment and how long it took to regain gainful employment .

following Mr Canada

Year: 2012

Industry: Hospitality

Job: Hotel Manager

Time: Total of 3 months incl 1 month holiday and maybe 15 email applications. Once I changed my resume to Canadian style, and personally visited companies, only 2 days till a job offer!!!

(I think a LSD - or "Look, See, Get A Job Offer" - is important for this if you are not in Canada already!)

My company (a bank) has just gone through a massive re-organisation. I was "re-orgged" into a new position which i really did not want, but it was either that or leave.

4 of my colleagues were retrenched in Jan and Feb. 3 of them have already found new full time jobs. The fourth has found contract work. If you have the right skills, there is work to be had.

Landed with a job. Good times! Got laid off after 3 years, bad times. Still looking for re-employment since August 2013.

My bank doesn't do the big reorg but instead does lots of little changes which ultimately has the same end result: people do get laid off. A number of colleagues over the last couple years have actually taken a long time to get new jobs (some took over a year which has both surprised and scared me).
