Sights and sounds of Ottawa

Recommended Posts

I'm going to Ottawa (for the first time) in May. Can anyone please let me know what are the must-see attractions of our capital city? I'll be there for a couple of days and would like to do as much sightseeing as possible.

Thanks.

Hi there Tazz...

I've been in Ottawa since Oct. last year, but have not done much over here, touristy wise! lol... For the most part I've been burried in snow, which led me to ski and skating lessons! :o

I've been to the Parliament Buildings and the New Years fireworks and Winterlude... Sparks street mall and Byward Market are both about a block or 2 away from Parliament Hill... Hmmm... Gatineau (Quebec) is just across the river. Both Downtown and on the Quebec side have quite a few Museums and Galeries and stuff... Lots of Bike/walking paths and then there's the Rideau Canal... I think there's boat tours that you can take on the river/canal during Summer. Supposedly you can catch a "Riksha"??? @ Byward Market which will give you a tour of the area...

Best is to go through the following websites and see if there's any kind of festivals, etc. going on that time of the year.

Once Summer gets here, I'm definitely going to explore more!

Hope this helps!

Z.

Thanks a lot Zanie! The info is much appreciated. Apparently the feral cats sanctuary is also something to look forward to :)

lol... Have no clue about that one, though the Tulip Festival is on from the beginning of May till the 18th! Supposedly it's beautiful and free! :) There are kiosks that represent different countries too. Supposedly there's also alot of food. Ha ha ha... You pay a cetain amount and then you can sample as much as you'd like!

Then there's the haunted tour, by lantern, at night and a few other ones. Hmmm... The amphibious boat that takes you for a tour and a dive in the Ottawa River. lol... Lady Dive, or something like that. THere's a hop-on/hop-off bus as well... Costs $24 and you can see all the major attractions in a day. They do have multi-day packages too...

So when in May are you planning a trip here?

Have a great day,

Z.

PS: I now recall that cat sanctuary! lol... It's to the side of the Parliament Buildings!
