  1. Hi all! It's a pleasure to meet everyone. I've thoroughly enjoyed reading threads on this forum over the past while, leading up to my own application period. Now, I can happily say that's begun. I'm busy getting all my documents in order, getting ECA, etc. and intend to enter the pool at the start of 2020. After a lengthy period of research, I settled on Edmonton as my destination, due to a number of factors I know about myself, and I'm sure I'll be happy with my decision. However, I am somewhat concerned about how long it'll take to find work there, so any insights will be greatly appreciated. I have a marketing master's and a couple of years of full-time marketing experience behind me. Luckily my field means I can work at an extremely broad range of companies/institutions. 1. At what point do you think I should begin reaching out to companies advertising jobs (and recruiters)? 2. What do you think the chances are of my getting Skype/phone interviews while still in SA? 3. Any advice in terms of what to do once I've hard landed next year, for finding work soonest (if I haven't already)? Thanks in advance for any advice!

To immigrate or not to immigrate?

Hello everyone! A bit about me. My husband and I, and our 2 young kids live in Cape Town. We love it, but the constant crime and the worry for our children's future has made us concerned about remaining in the country. My husband has recently been offered a well paying job in Victoria. The company would pay for our move and handle the immigration side of things. My concern is, how do you make that final decision to leave? I keep trying to weigh up the pros and cons in my head, but I always end up feeling just as confused and panicky. As a family we are all very close to the grandparents who live very close to us, and the idea of leaving them and moving their grandkids away makes me wonder if moving would be the right decision. Our kids are also in a wonderful public school here, would they get that same standard in Victoria? Would they be worse off if we uproot them from the grandparents they adore ? Any advice would be really appreciated ❤️

    Capetonians living in Canada

Hi Everyone, I was wondering how many people on the forum was/is from Cape Town and if the immigration was difficult because I've heard from many people that Capetonians find it more difficult to settle in Canada. I think the reasoning is that Cape Town is very different than the rest of SA and we have experienced less crime than the other parts of the country which almost makes one feel like you are leaving a country that is still "okayish" where as people leaving SA from JHB really leave because it is an absolute nessesity. Things have become totally unbearable around the JHB area so the only alternative is to leave the country. I would love to hear from the Capetonians that made the move if they have had regrets, second thoughts ect. PS: I am still trying to convince my husband that we should leave but he loves his country..

    Photos for the application

Hi Anyone tell me where in Cape Town we can have photos taken with the specifications needed for the application? The photos must: measure between 25 mm and 30 mm (1”and 1 3/8”) from chin to crown;have a 35 mm x 45 mm (1 3/8” x 1 ¾”) finished size.We went to a photo place in Cavendish that does Visa photos etc, a while back but the guy had no idea what I was talking about so we left it at that, but now that we are a couple days away from submitting our application it's probably worth doing We're going to try Orms in the morning, but if that fails?
