Hi All

Can anyone recommed a good SA doctor in the North Vancouver area or surrounds? We've just moved to the city and need a good doctor. We are also looking for a dentist but the dentist need not be south african.

Any recommendations and referrals would be greatly appreciated.

I can't help you, but I just wanted to add that my doctor is an Indian immigrant. He is extremely helpful since he knows what its like to have emigrated and always explains the system in Canada to me in great detail since he knows that things will be different.

Having a SA doctor can be very comforting, as you feel a bond with them and they know where you are coming from. That commonality can be a great factor in building a good relationship with your primary caregiver. However, a good doctor is a good doctor, no matter where they come from, so I would not give up the opportunity of getting onto someone's books who has a stellar reputation.

BTW, I have a Canadian -born Chinese family doctor, who is a brilliant and caring physician (OK, so we can't chat about things SA, but I figure I go to discuss my health and nothing else, anyway) and I have the best ever dentist, who just happens to be ex SA, but I never really chat to him, because my mouth is always fillied with cottonwool, anyway!!

There is a SA dentist in North Van. I will pm you his details. You can ask him for a Doctor. He is lives and works in North Van.

I'm not opposed to any other doctor per se but I thought a South African doctor would be best as there is some medication that I require and know will not get here in Canada.

I merely thought a South African would be familiar with my medication back home and would therefore be able to suggest suitable alternatives?!

you may want to try Dr Reznick in Burnaby. He is the nearest ex-SA Doctor I know of near us in North Van.
