I have to admit that sometimes I hate things.
For instance I hate Eat-Sum-More out on Bathurst street. No. Not really. Just the way I always have to buy something when I go in. Which I did twice on Saturday.
OK perhaps I should explain.
Eat-Sum-More had a lamb spit-braai and so Mariel, my daughter, the YL and myself toddled off to sample some. The YL never having tasted spit-braaied lamb before. (Sigh! These Canadians don't they ever realise what they are missing??)
Which is all fine and dandy except that you can't really stand around outside noshing braaied lamb without venturing inside the shop. Once at least. Well we arrived before the lamb was fully cooked so we went inside and bought some stuff.....mmmmm billies....and then drove to the cheese factory out in Aurora to indulge in my other passion. So we came back to have some lamb and wouldn't you believe it you have to buy the tickets inside the shop and so back in and of course who can pass up the opportunity to add a few items? Smart move Alan. Smart.
Even smarter was giving the YL a free sample of billies. She already had the glazed look of the billies junkie who spies their next fix. This time though I was prepared. I have the answer. One pack plain for her. One pack peri-peri for me. And one pack to hide with my secret stash so that I have a peace offering should I need it.
I am dreading the day I have corrupted her taste buds so badly that she tries peri peri and likes it. It worked with my daughter who now adds Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce to hers. A small tear creeps into the corner of the eye here.I am so proud etc..

Canadian Trivia
In 1901 Nova Scotia was the first Province to designate an official flower when it chose the mayflower. It is the only Province with an official berry (the blueberry), an official dog (the duck tolling retriever) and an official boat (the Bluenose II )
100 Things top do in Canada before you die (courtesy of the National Post)
The National Post ran an article a few weeks back that I was really interested in. If only to see how many of the things to do I had done already. I don't necessarily agree with all they say should be done and you can add your own but I intend to run bits of the article over the next year or so for all of you to think about. So here goes:
40. Drive from Toronto to Montreal without going on the 401. Hwy 2 to Cornwall then Route 34 to Route 18 which changes into Rote 340 at the Quebec border.
41. Take a tour of a Canadian Armed Forces base.
42. Visit the Hibernia oil platform off the east coast on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland.
The usual roundup of good, bad and annoying jokes
Two hunters from Chicago hired a pilot to fly them to Canada to hunt moose. They bagged six.
As they started loading the plane for the return trip home, the pilot tells them the plane can take only three moose.
The two objected strongly, stating; "Last year we shot six moose and the pilot let us put them all on board and he had the same plane as yours."
Reluctantly, the pilot gave in and all six were loaded.
Unfortunately, even on full power, the little plane couldn't handle the load and went down a few minutes after takeoff.
Climbing out of the wreck, one hunter asked the other, "Any idea where we are?"
Came the reply, "I think we're pretty close to where we crashed last year."
The weather may be hot or the weather may be dry but there is never a failure of the dandelion crop!
A Canadian Beaver walks into the bar and asks "Is the bar tender here?"
Juffrou vra vir Gatiep: Jou Ma het 4 aartappels, julle is 9 kinders, hoeveel aartappels gaan elkeen kry?
Gatiep: My Ma is nie 'n poephol nie, sy maak mash!'
I discovered that Burlington has an actual beach on the weekend. (No not the beach, I was there on the weekend.Sheesh.) OK. So the "beach" is not quite the same as the pristine beaches off some of the islands dotting the Caribbean but you can still lie down in the sand and be harassed by dogs, kids and radio's with the best of them, while the sand still gets in all the clothing and incorrect cracks. If the weather carries on the way it has over the last few days I fully intend make use of this facility as often as possible. Mind you the water looks ever so much like most of those stagnant pools down on the South Coast so I guess swimming may be curtailed a bit. And then there is the need to find a way to stop the YL from sighing every time she sees a yacht.
Cheers, sala kakuhle, salani kahle, totsiens, sala kuhle, sala kahle, sala sintle, salang gabotsi, salani and kha vha sale zwavhudi and for the Canadianised among you "later"
Charles
