Question of the week. Since we all live on this great continent, how many of you have started to enjoy the sports this land has to offer? And if so which ones are you watching?

These are not really sports (or even uniquely North American), but I've taken up running and cycling. I never felt comfortable enough in SA to do these, but found the infrastructure and lifestyle in Vancouver condusive to these "sports"

Still haven't gotten into hockey too much but I'm a big NBA fan.

Marli,
Running and cycling are definitely sports.
I have come to love football, hockey and baseball. I find it’s difficult to follow NBA, NHL and NFL all more or less at the same time. In the summer it’s mostly baseball which makes it easier to keep up with what’s going on.
NBA:
I’m not a big NBA van, though I’ve gone to three Raptors games. It’s actually quite entertaining, but geared to a different crowd than a hockey or baseball game. Unfortunately the Raptors are doing so badly that it can’t be any fun watching them.
NFL/CFL:
NFL is probably my favourite game now. Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings are strictly NFL time. I prefer the NFL to the CFL. I find it strange that they actually have different rules for the two leagues. Why the CFL has only 3 downs, I’ll never understand. It seems that 4 downs work perfectly. With a limited number of teams, the CFL is also less attractive.
The NFL is hugely successful. Last Monday, Detroit played Green Bay. It was -10C and snowing. Both teams are two of the worst teams in the league this year and way out of contention. There were 72,000 people (every single NFL game is a sell out) and apparently there are over 68,000 people on the waiting list for season tickets for Green Bay!, the can fill the stadium twice for each game with season ticket holders only!
NHL:
How can you live in Canada and not watch hockey? The new rules have made the game also more entertaining. Unfortunately, it is both impossible and frightfully expenses to find tickets for a game. The Leafs are not doing particularly well this season. With so many games in a season, I end up watching only about 1 in 4 or 5 Leaf games.
MLB:
It’s always fun and cheap to go to the Skydome (sorry, Rogers Centre). The Blue Jays always seem to have the potential to go to the playoffs, but they never do. Frustrating. I wish the MLB can see that the current system of having a few strong (read: rich) teams and a number of weaker teams, don’t work. I think the NFL has the perfect draft system which makes for fairly even strength teams.

I just returned from two weeks in Arkansas....and now i finally understand and have started to like the NFL. You wont like it if you compare it to rugby. Its more similar to chess where the coaches play against each other.

Well... rugby is still my sport of choice even after almost 10 years of living here. Luckily there are lots of teams here and it's very easy to join a team and play! With all games being broadcasted online it's also easy to get more than a full serving of rugby on tv (if you have your pc hooked up to your tv, that is)
For North American sports I would have to go with hockey. I need a game that does not have 5 second "plays" with 5 minutes of commercials between each break. I do agree that NFL/CFL is more of a chess game than rugby, but it is simply just too slow for me.
OP, and b.t.w. did you know the Grey Cup was given to the Candian Rugby Union
See here for the history
