Does anybody out there have experience/knowledge of publishing e-books or something similar on the web for profit?

We are looking for advice.

If you are thinking about publishing an e-book, consider publish a book in print as well through a publisher. In any large bookstore, you can buy a book called Writer's Market, which is a list of all editors that pay for work (both books and magazines) - along with a set of useful articles on how to get published. All the publishing companies are listed, along with statistics for each company - what they pay, how many queries they get and what percentage gets published (both from new and existing writers).

The e-book market is still not a strong as the "dead tree" market. Even if you acheive a small print run 2000-3000 with about a $3 royalty with a printed edition, you can still make around $10 000. Often, publishers have good links with libraries in North America, and just writing a book that goes to public libraries can be lucrative.

What we have to publish would possibly not cut with publishers in North America or Canada, but with so many ex-South Africans around, there's always a chance.
Our manuscript is in Afrikaans, and only apllicable to people born and bred in South Africa. When we were still there, say, four years ago, we could get plenty of printers to do the job (self-publishing), but none of the publishers were interested. They thought the work was good, but said that the market would be too small. That's why we thought of doing it on the Web.

Thanks for your comments.

Hi Pierre

I have a couple of ideas you can use. Please PM me, as some of them may be misconstrued as 'advertising'.

Hi Pierre

I was going through some of the old messages and came across your request. Have you managed to get the info you want?

I am not an expert at e-book marketing, and am also busy gearing up to get into that market, but have a bit of knowledge on marketing web sites, etc. I could also give you some useful links to e-book marketing sites that I have found. Let me know how things have been going.
