so now that all the IT folks are laughing at me... why oh why.. am I not getting sacanda notifications via email unless someone PMs me, I want to get noficiations on replys on my comments or after my comments... etc...

in the reply box you are writing in, at the bottom there is a check box for "enable email notification of replies". check it off.

You can also track a specific topic, or "subscribe" to the forum it is in (like Discussions -> General for this one), by clicking on the Options button at the top left of the topic page, and picking the type of tracking (being informed via your forum email) you prefer.
