Best advice for IT manager positions - apply for skilled immigration - and get yourselves here - then apply, as that is one of the skilled positions they are looking for. - and get to Canada.

Consider that you might not get a position as an IT manager due to not having "Canadian Experience": Consider applying some "hard skill" - e.g. DBA, Java etc. it will be much easier to get a job that way...

When you get here - also consider starting an own business - there are loads of incentives to help you with that.

That's great news Johan! Thank you for the help! Think you and Karen should maybe have a chat at the Coffee Club meeting :-)

Thanx Again!

Hi Johankok

Thanks for the info.
I have my PR already and will be landing 1 May2010.
I guess that is the only way one is going to find a job .

Thanks

Shelene - In all likelyhood yes, our tickets were confirmed today... we have some hectic traveling ahead for the next few weeks.

Kav, be at the Coffee club on the 17th... I might not be able to help you directly to a job - but I dealt a fair bit with Alberta's immigration and employment, and their efforts to ensure landed immigrants does not leave Canada, but are taken up into the market, and to try and limit / eliminate under employment.

We've been running some adverts for an IT manager, thus could give you feedback on what the sort competition you might face, once I understand what kind/size/industry of IT "shop" you have been running.

The markets are picking up here, but that is still on the start of the cycle. Most of the free skills around is likely to be competition in the management space within IT. Actual programming/DBA and similar skills are pretty scarce around...

Most positions are given out on reference.... thus NETWORK as much as you can... and start NOW...

See you there....

I am in the same position, also wondered if it isn't easier just to move and hope for the best.

I have spoken to a few people and they indicate that there are plenty of IT jobs and chances of finding something is very good.
It may not be in the exact same position but it will be something to start off with.
