I've been in Canada for 15 years. Just received an email from refunds@sars.gov.za that says:
Tax Refund Notification
After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity, we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of 482.50 ZAR. Please submit the tax refund request and allow 6-9 days in order to process it. It is addressed to "undisclosed recipients" and doesn't have my name on it. Went into my spam folder. Just wondering if anyone else has received a similar email, and if it is real?
Click Here to submit you tax refund request
Note : A refund can be delayed a variety of reasons, for example submitting invalid records or applying after deadline.
Yours Sincerely
South African Revenue Service.
***** Found the answer on SARS website - it's a phishing email to get my bank info!! *****

If it's asking you for any kind of detail (ie bank, personal, etc), IT IS a scam. SARS should have all your details already.

Register on Sars E-Filing and then you can update your banking detail.
SARS would then be able to do the refund electonically(that is,if the info is genuine)

Just received this email from the bank:
"Please be aware that there is a hoax e-mail doing the rounds from refunds@sars.co.za. In the e-mail it states that you will be receiving a refund from SARS and it would take 6 to 9 days, they then request that you click on a link provided to complete your bank details and to confirm. Under no circumstances should you react to this mail, it is a scam to retrieve your bank details. SARS will only request bank details via e-filing or on your tax return.
If you should receive such a mail, please contact Supt. Meyer at the SAPS, at 051 503 2797.
Please be reminded that the deadline to complete your 2009 tax Return is 20 November 2009. Should you fail to meet this deadline SARS will levy a penalty for late submission. Issued by: Employees’ Tax and Benefits Please do NOT reply to this message as it is sent from an unattended mailbox"
