Good day

Try this site to search for NOC codes: http://www23.hrdc-drhc.gc.ca/2001/e/generi...D=up&#index

I had several titles, as it seems that in SA a rose can be called 1000 different names…
• I am currently an IT project manager, if I use the site above it recommends 0213 (Computer and Information System Managers), but I have a duel role as Business Architect the closest correlation I could find was 1122 (Professional Occupations in Business Services to Management). How do I complete section 26 of the form and account for the dual appointment?
• Any idea what a Process Engineer (Process consultant) in the services industry translates to, or senior manager in charge of setting up a new department… I tried several combinations of the title but without success…
• Do you complete the occupation per employer or Job description?

Any help is really appreciated!
Kind regards,

Hi Chazon

Many persons are going through this process and it is not always straight forward to ID your occupation. Here is my take on it: Firstly, the skilled worker PR application's approval is promarily based on points scored and is for practical implications only your passport to reside in Canada indefinately. You may have a completely different occupation in Canada.

Management occupations seem to be desirable according to the PR form ..."only....Skill Type 0 or Skill Levels A or B of the NOC". So if your were officially appointed as a manager (team leaders & other lower managers are seemingly not included) in IT Projects I would go for the 0213 code.

A process Engineer / consultant in service industry would be NOC 1122, but if you were appointed as a senior manager, I would go for the appropriate management code between 00 and 09

Also, my understanding is that your occupation is the role you played and the employer is irrelevant, so if you had a few jobs as 1 specific occupation you only specify the one occupation.

I would also (have also) fairly closely copied the description of main duties from the NOC to make it obvious for them that you have selected the right code and not complicate the matter. This might also come into play in letters of confirmation of employment from your employer(s).

Hope this is useful

Regards
Charles

Correct, nothing to say that you must work in your stated occupation. There are many PHD's driving taxi's here!

You have to choose the description that most closely matches your tertiary education and skills. This is what you'll be assessed on.

Depends on your job - if you have worked for a company in various different roles then you can state the different NOC categories and dates when you transferred to the new job description within the same company. Don't forget though that you need to back this up with a reference letter, so you'll need to get the HR manager or your supervisor to back up this info.

Can someone on this forum advise on how one can change the NOC code on the original application form? We applied in Jan 07 and my husband wants to change to 2132 (mech eng) since he does have most of his educational background and experience in this field.

Your advise would be greatly appreciated!

Hi!

Was just wondering if you managed to sort your query out as per above? My current predicament is somewhat similar and so I just thought I'd check.

Kind regards

Here is a weird one as well,

If you own and run your own company / companies how would you select the correct NOC? You are a senior manager, technical advisor, consultant, financial manager, HR manager and even a janitor / tea server from time to time etc.

We do employ people to do some of these jobs but many tasks ultimately fall on our shoulders to deal with.

So we could be anything in the FSW application list as we play infinite rolls in your own company.

Do you just pick what is the best that suites you? How would you offer a referral / letter of recommendation from yourself?

My wife and I have run our own companies for the last 6 years plus, so the letters of reference we have from previous jobs are quite dated? Should we rather get letters from clients and suppliers etc?

Has anyone ever done a self-employed / business owner PR application and succeeded? Any extra effort / documents needed (not that we mind the effort if it is needed) as we want to start our own businesses in CA, maybe after a year or so as we need to settle in and see what opportunities are available for us to consider.

Thanks

My husband had his own company (software development) for 7 years before we moved to Canada (on WP though). You have to choose the NOC for the main work that your company does (eg he is a software developer, although he also did work as project manager, business analyst, etc, etc, but the essence of his work was in software development). And he had only one employer before starting his own company. We got a reference letter from them. For the time he had his own company, we wrote a letter on the company letterhead stating all his duties within his company. And attached all contracts with clients - it stated his duties and projects, etc.

Nirak,

Thanks for that. I forgot to add in the nature of one of the companies is Professional (Legal Practice) so we are following NOC for Attorney.

My wife also lectures for the Law society ( teaching young and qualifying law students the requirements for graduating as a attorney/ lawyer) and thus including that as a NOC.
Also she is a Skills development facilitator (Specialised HR) and that NOC code is also used plus she is a Chairperson of Board of governors at a private school and also using that NOC code.

There are smaller NOC codes for other businesses/ jobs but those are just more for reference that actually being used for motivation.

I have NOC's for IT manager, IT security consultant, IT security engineer, IT project implementation, IT network development etc and also my Real Estate and Property projects companies.

I guess that at least there are som that have done the self-employed and business owner route and have succeeded so we are more relieved with our application being couriered Monday Morning

Hi MaryJane,

Yes - We did manage to change our NOC code, but they asked for proof in the form of the new employment contract and list of duties on a company letterhead as far as I can remember.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hope they won't ask for mine. It would be hard to get now as most of the companies have closed down sad.gif .
