Hi all the bakers out there!
Is there any product in Canada that can be used to substitute Orley Whip in recipes, I am trying to convert my Pepermint Crisp Tart to canadianism!
Thank you
Hester

I am no baker, but I have used Cool Whip in place of Orly whip. It is not quite the same, but does the job adequately.

Hi Hester
Tennisbeskuitjies
Peppermint sjokolade
Orley whip
Caramelized kondensmelk
Ja, daar is substitutes.
Laat weet my as jy 'n substitute vind vir tennisbeskuitjies, asb!

It's easy to boil condensed milk in Canada. Cover the tins with cold water (in a saucepan

), heat, and boil at low temperature for 2¼ hours. I usually cook two or three tins at a time and save the rest for later. Just keep them covered with water. (continue to add boiled water).
I substitute the tennis biscuits with graham crackers.
Look in the baking needs aisle at supermarkets for an Orley-whip substitute. Unfortunately I used the last of mine and can't remember the brand name. I think it's called dessert topping and comes in a box which contains three or four envelopes of the stuff. Add some milk and beat it till stiff. It's sweetened, unfortunately. I wonder if plain whipping cream won't do.
Aero makes a nice tasting peppermint chcolate which is an acceptable subsitute for peppermint crisp.

Peppermint Crisp tart is one of our favourite family treats. I boil 2 - 3 tins of condensmilk (like Cathy K) and keep the tins I don't use in the fridge. Tennis biscuits and peppermint crisp I buy at the SA shop. I use 250ml of normal whipping cream instead of orly whip - net so lekker!
I have found some German biscuits that I have used in the place of tennis biscuits. They are called Leibniz butter biscuits and come in a long, rectangular yellow packet. They don't have the coconut taste like Tennis biscuits but are a good substitute.
Mmm... time to boil some condensmilk

Jean, it's not necessary to keep you cooked condensed milk in the fridge (except after you opened them).
You're welcome, Marli.
I come from a long line of boervroue who believe that nothing is impossible. I made delicious chutney and apricot jam from dried apricots in Canada. Heck, I even have a quite respectable recipe for zucchinni chutney. My home-made waatlemoenkonfyt was made with watermelons bought at Superstore.
We fortunately have no shortage of fig trees on Vancouver Island, so we still enjoy home-made fig jam here.
I adapted my own bread recipe for the breadmachine and learned to make selfraising flour as a substitute for the salty Canadian brands.
Wenresepte's "troepiekoekies" have undergone a Canadian makeover with the addition of choc-chips and nuts. Jan Smuts tertjies are nowadays filled with strawberry jam.
And when the yearning for koesisters become too much, but the time is limited, I make small vetkoek and dunk them in leftover koeksister syrup.

Another orley-whip substitute that I have used on the advice of a Canadian who knows orley-whip, is Nutriwhip. It is in a carton and I found it in the fridges near the sour cream and cream in a spray can. i have used it and it is OK but not the same as the real thing. I also use graham crackers

Hi Sus (Hester)!
Mooi bly
Magda
