    Flight Tickets

Hi @Deidre, we have just gotten an excellent quote for one-way tickets to Calgary from Cape Town through the International Organization for Migration (IOM) - they're associated with the UN and assist people migrating with reduced airfares and extra baggage allowance. It's almost a 50% savings! If you want further details, you're welcome to contact me.

    PCC - Visa Logistics

If you're in South Africa, I would apply through your local police station (but one that is known to be more efficient than others, haha they exist, but are a rarity). My spouse and I paid roughly R140 per PCC application. Visa Logistics quoted roughly R2000 per PCC application. They also have a "rush" service, for another R1000 odd. It adds up quickly. If you under some time constraint, and have the money, I would go with Visa Logistics. If not, through your local police station will save you a lot of money - and your PCCs will be ready for collection in +-3 weeks.

    Police Clearance

It was a long time ago but yes, I think we needed to. I had mine certified while in SA but I believe you can ask your local MLA OR ask on your Facebook community page if there's someone local.

    Police Clearance

I'm in Calgary so CPS doesn't do fingerprints. We went to a finger printing place downtown. You should be able to use RCMP depending on where you are or a third party service that's authorized to do it.

Medical specialists looking to emigrate to canada

Hi Leila, I'll be following your post in the hope of gaining further insight. I'm a Medical Technologist. I will need to undergo a Prior Learning Assessment (R10000) and then obtain CSMLS certification (R18000) prior to creating any profiles or looking for jobs. It would be like rewriting my board exam. A job agency informed me that I won't secure employment in my field without this certification. I need to find out if it's possible to write this exam from here in SA or if I would have to go to Canada to write it. That would be another big expense. Anyway, I hope it all works out for you.

Medical specialists looking to emigrate to canada

I have a friend who is an Emergency Physician and said exactly what you are saying. The hoops they make you jump through is incredible... Having said that, if you wanted to amend your destination to PEI, I will personally go and pound the pavement to PEI Health, on your behalf, as and when needed We need great medical specialists

It also makes sense to me to select "unemployed" because you weren't being paid a salary

    AIPP - Documents Needed

We didn't need unabridged anything for PR - though my kid's birth certificate is unabridged anyway.

    Police Clearance

I have been asked to send certified copies of my passport together with my fingerprints for the PCC application. @Flyfish and @M-N, I assume DocAssist asked you for this as well? How did you get your ID/passport copies certified? Canadian police officer?
  13. Hilmarie

    Police Clearance

Thank you @Flyfish and @M-N! Where did you guys have your fingerprints taken? Can it be any finger printing service in Canada? @GoDz85, yes you need PCCs for your work permit application.

    Flight Tickets

Hi @Deidre We also got return tickets on KLM as they were cheaper and as we got closer to the return date we managed to get a refund for the return tickets. Good luck and welcome.

Thank you for the info 🙂 - I did notice there is little or no difference fee wise

    Flight Tickets

Hi @Deirdre congratulations! I did the same as @LidiaS77 and booked a return flight, as it was much cheaper than a one-way. I also never used the return flight.

    AIPP - Documents Needed

For PR we used our handwritten marriage certificate with no problems. I needed my unabridged birth certificate to prove relation to family in Canada, but my husband didn't need his at all - adults don't need them (but children do). It is best to have these documents though as they might be needed in the future. We used DocAssist to get ours and they did it much faster - we applied for my, my husband and my dad's unabridged birth certificates at the same time and only used DocAssist for mine and my dad's (as my husband's wasn't needed). My and my dad's certificates were ready in a few weeks and my husband's wasn't ready after 9 months, at which point we used DocAssist again to get it just before we left (after we've already received our PR).

    Flight Tickets

Hi @Deirdre, You can book either return or one-way. One way won't be a problem since having PR means you intend to permanently reside in Canada and there is no condition of having to go back to SA (like with other types of visas). We booked return flights since they were cheaper than one-way tickets for the route and airline that we preferred. We just never used the return part and didn't have any problems. On some airlines (e.g. sometimes Emirates) one-way tickets could be cheaper than return tickets but in many cases return tickets are cheaper.

    AIPP - Documents Needed

Thank so much. The document checklist doesn't state that we need unabridged birth certificates or unabridged marriage certificate but Im just worried when it comes to applying for PR.

When approved for PR - do we have to book return flight tickets or one way for the family?

Good day all, Has anyone used Visa Logistics to get police clearance certificates? What do they charge? Thank you so much

    Travel and personal history

Hi @LislB Congrats with your ITA, it's an awesome feeling. We filled in the actual dates, thus leaving and entering on the same date, I'd rather be accused of being thick than being untruthful 🤣. They will probably verify this in our security check anyways. I believe you should fill in all the fields that you've mentioned in your PR application, thus if you've claimed points for education, then you need to submit an ECA report. So on the housewife question, I cannot really comment, but I suspect you should have selected "Unemployed" but maybe someone else can help you out? Good luck with everything. Cheers

    Travel and personal history

Good morning! We received our ITA on Tuesday 20 August and it has been a whirlwind of emotions! Now that we have started filling in our PR application online I have some questions. (I have searched but can't seem to find the answers...) Firstly regarding travel history. Looking in our passports, there are a few times where we left one foreign country and entered the next foreign country on the same day. Will CIC accept this or should I change the second date (the arrival date)? For example, we left Amsterdam on the 23rd December and arrived in Dublin on the 23rd of December. Secondly, spouse (that's me) personal history. We have not included my work history in the separate work history section but I know I need to include it in the personal history section. That being said, when opening the personal history section it already has my degree (education) which I completed Dec 2004. That is more than 10 years ago. Should I fill in all the personal history in between then and now? Also regarding the personal history, I have spent a large period of time being a housewife which I have put in as Homemaker - position housewife. But what should I put as the company name for this? "Our house"? Hoping that someone can help me.
  25. I'd like to know if there are any Medical Technologists in this group who have successfully immigrated to Canada. I've done some research and even tried to apply for jobs but I'm told that I need to obtain CSMLS certification. This would be a rather massive and expensive undertaking. I'm hoping there are others out there that have secured jobs prior to being CSMLS certified, and obtained certification whilst working (in Canada). If you have managed this please let me know where you searched for jobs or how you went about the whole process of obtaining your CSMLS certification. I'm looking at settling in British Columbia at this stage. Much appreciated! Yulande

PR application taking longer than six months

The unknown is definitely the hardest part, but the way I kept trying to see it was "no news is good news" - they can't just outright reject an application and if they have an issue they are obligated to first send you a procedural fairness letter to ask for an explanation or give you an opportunity to clear things up, and as you're already this far along, I am sure it will all be fine. Just have to keep the faith that you've done your best and it will all work out. I am also not sure how I survived 16 long months - I do have a bit of a nervous twitch now though, haha Our first and biggest mistake was using an agent - so I honestly would not recommend this route, so don't stress about that. Good luck, and please keep us posted when you hear some good news!

PR application taking longer than six months

Hi @Kitcat So I'm a normal FSW Express Entry Applicant. AOR: 27 Dec2018 & my application is still in the Ottawa office where it's being processed. My eligibility is being reviewed, criminality, biometrics (Feb2018) and medicals done and passed (Feb2018). Security not started. Nothing specific on eligibility, I wish I knew more. Min CRS Score: 449, CRS Score: 479 - So I have all the points I applied for. Ya the limbo and waiting is really frustrating, but I hope I have some feedback soon. I don't know how you managed to wait so long, but at least you have it now . Well hopefully something comes through by end of the month. Will try the MP route end of the month. I didn't use an immigration agency, maybe I should have...?
