PR application query (PNP, FSW CRS 408).

I'll have to peak to the college about that - it's also a good point. The practicum is only two weeks, I'll contact he school to find out.

Will you be able to complete your practicum on a tourist visa? Wouldn't you need a work or student visa for that?

PR application query (PNP, FSW CRS 408).

Hi guys, thanks for the the responses and apologies for the late reply. I have looked into all the PNP programs extensively, it doesn't seem likely I'll get an ITA any time soon. The next option is going over in December now that travel restrictions have lifted. I have a valid tourist visa for Canada, so I'm planning to go over on a tourist visa in December (pending restrictions), and complete my practicum for a Canadian teaching course I'm doing to certify me to teach in Ontario. I'm teaching online at the moment, so I'll continue to do that while I'm in Toronto. My questions are: If my PR comes through while I'm on a tourist visa in Toronto, is it possible for me to get PR while in Canada, or would I have to return to South Africa? If I used the whole 6 months of my tourist visa, would I have to wait a full year before returning to Canada, or would it be til the end of 2021? Are you given 6 months per calendar year, or per year from date of entry? If I got a job while on a tourist visa in Toronto, would it be possible to upgrade my tourist visa to a work permit visa while there? I'd heard that this might be a possibility. My girlfriend is currently in Toronto and will have PR by early next year. We're also thinking about the common-law sponsorship route, but I think this might be problematic as we'd only have lived together for a few months (although we've been together 4 years somehow via long distance) by the time that I'd apply for PR with her as my sponsor. I'd also prefer not to put her in a situation where she had to sponsor me. If you have any other possible suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it. Am planning on moving to Toronto.

Thanks, it really has been costly and inconvenient. We hoping we can start our new chapter soon. We actually started the process in 2017 via the PNP Ontario, so it's been quite a long one.

Hi Muhammed, Interestingly I also read some other forums and found that some have been lucky to have their medicals extended ( just updating on their profiles to a more recent date) while others have been requested to redo the medicals. It would really suck to have to redo that process again. I guess only time will tell.. Hoping things start to move along now. Regards, Tarryn

Hi @Clay1204 Im shocked reading its your 3rd time, it is so so expensive especially being a family of 5 We did police clearances 3 x times, Im sure we will redo medicals (2nd) time And I also heard IELTS expires after 2yrs,we did our IELTS in February 2019 so it expires Feb 2021 which seems far but time flies 😥

Hi @Taryn @Moga One of my friend's got PR last year December with medicals already being4 x months expired all depend on your case officer But due to Covid I think its highly unlikely they will extend medicals 😥

Hi Tarryn, I am hoping that we get medicals extended by IRCC, our medicals would be 1 year in October. better still I hope PPR's are issued asap. From some of the other forums, people have mentioned that medicals have been extended by 6 to 12 months depending on the M score allocated by IRCC. Thanks Muhammed

Hi Everyone, With the VAC offices 'open', IELTS tests starting to resume, things are looking up! Just wondering if anyone else's Medicals are going to reach the one year date during the course of October? Unsure if there is a possibility that the IRCC will extend any medicals due to the Covid delays or whether we will receive a notification to redo them. Any one have any info? Many thanks! Tarryn
  16. Hi there Has anyone done a course through the digital school of marketing and had their diplomas accredited through WES? The school tells us they have sent information on behalf of a student but we don't know what the outcome was. I am finishing my 3 year diploma through another institution that is very clear about which courses are accepted by WES but we cant seem to find any information about the digital school of marketing other than from them but it's not displayed on their website, they have indicated that they are accredited. My hubby doesn't want to waste his money going through them if it will be rejected by WES. Any advice? TIA

Just my two cents, hubby took a job at a call Centre which had nothing to do with his IT field, but he did that for a year before he got a great job in his field. They pay you while you are in training as well.

Yeah a survival office job isn't the worse thing that could happen to you I think another factor in my case is that the investment industry is relatively small in Vancouver. So I am strongly considering making the move to Toronto. I've already applied for a few positions based in the GTA, but I'm afraid they won't consider me if I'm not already there.

Let’s say you take a minimum wage job working in a coffee shop. You are wondering what that does to your resume? Well you could just leave it off... but you earn some money. I would then also find a meaningful volunteer role which could look good on a resume (for some Canadian experience) while leaving the minimum wage job off the resume.

I'm in the accounting field and at that point in time, was getting antsy over not having a job for so long so I took the first one that offered me an office job. Frankly, I was even willing to go unpaid (yes, I had another offer, if you could call it that), but am glad that I didn't have to resort to that. The office job had a fancy title but basically was much like an office/admin clerk. I call it my survival job because while it wasn't at minimum wage, the pay barely made it through the 15 days till the next one. But I understood that I was doing what I needed to and it wasn't going to be a long phase. Having a job brought about routine and normalcy and I needed it at the time (after the uprooting of lives 🙂). When I started looking for the second one, it was actually easier to explain that it was a transition phase for me. Nowadays, I don't mention my survival job on my resume anymore (it doesn't add anything to help get me the job). The pace of integration and settlement differs from person to person. Even within my own family, each member dealt with it their own way. But it does get better.

    Proof of funds

I suspect that they won't: the funds are subject to the fluctuations in the market (and you could potentially lose all your money). This to me would signify a burden on the funds meaning that they would not be considered unencumbered. Perhaps the best course of action would be to cash enough of it out, transfer it to a savings/cheque account, and keep the proof of the money trail. Cheerio!

Thank you for your thoughts, I appreciate it. Canada's Covid stats might not look as dire as SA's, but the economy contracted by similar magnitudes - good news is it didn't really affect your industry. Most just continued working from home. My suggestion is you look at PNP's or even other countries' skill shortage lists.

I'm not in a position to give you any advice relevant to your field. What I do know is that you'll have to get licensed to practice and that is another story which I don't have the details on. For reference have a look here: https://www.jobbank.gc.ca/marketreport/requirements/15815/BC
